Daily Chairman of the National Police Commission (Kompolnas) Benny Mamoto said President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) did not appear angry when giving directions to Polri officials at the State Palace, Jakarta, Friday, October 14.

"No (angry). Just stressing so that it can quickly rise (public trust)," said Benny at the State Palace, Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Friday, October 14.

He said Jokowi in his directive asked the National Police not to commit violations, act professionally and provide services to the public properly, including giving a quick response to the public and the media.

According to Benny, one of the cases mentioned by Jokowi in his direction was the case involving the former Head of the Propam Police Division Ferdy Sambo.

The National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo separately said that in his direction Jokowi asked the National Police to maintain solidity. The National Police Chief acknowledged that the level of public trust in the National Police institution had decreased due to several cases that caused negative perceptions, one of which was the murder case of Brigadier J, which was masterminded by Ferdy Sambo.

The Ferdy Sambo case is very detrimental because the National Police Chief said that previously the National Police had a high level of public perception and confidence thanks to the performance of escorting a number of important government policies, such as handling COVID-19 and distributing social assistance.

"(It) has an impact on public trust which was once one of the highest rankings for APH (Law Enforcement Officials), but due to the FS (Ferdy Sambo) incident and several cases that have an impact on negative perceptions, the current level of public trust in the Police is low," said Sigit.
