JAKARTA - Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Jens Stoltenberg said on Thursday the alliance would provide Ukraine with hundreds of drone disruptive tools, after Russia was accused of targeting its cities with Iranian kamikaze drone devices.

"NATO will send counter-drone equipment to Ukraine with hundreds of drone clocks that can help make Russian and Iranian drones ineffective," Stoltenberg said at a press conference at the end of a two-day meeting of NATO defense ministers, to strengthen support for Ukraine., reported The National News October 14.

It is known that Iran sent its first drone shipment to Russia for use in Ukraine in August, the Washington Post reported at the time. Meanwhile, Ukraine has used Turkish-made combat drones in its war against Russia.

Ukrainian officials say Iranian kamikaze drones, which exploded during the collision, have been shot down in recent weeks. They can carry a warhead of about 80 pounds and have blown up howitzer M777 supplied by the US, according to The New York Times.

Ukrainian officials on Thursday said Russian forces had attacked the Kyiv and Odesa regions with Iranian-made drones. Iranians in Russia's occupied Ukrainian territory are training Russian people on how to use the Shahed-136 system, which can carry out air-to-surface attacks, electronic warfare and targeting, the AP reported.

Regarding the allegations by the Kamikaze drone, both Russian and Iranian authorities have denied the use of such drones.

Stoltenberg also said on Thursday NATO had stepped up its readiness on the east front with eight naval fighting groups from the Baltic Sea to the Black Sea, which could be quickly upgraded to the brigade level.

He also thanked NATO allies for their recent pledge to further support Ukraine, including the National Surface-to-Udara Missile System (NASAMS) from the United States.

He revealed that Spain is the latest country to have promised further military support, with four Hawk missile launchers to strengthen Ukraine's air defenses.

NATO wants Ukraine to "get meaningful operations throughout winter", Stoltenberg said. To that end, "West military alliances will continue to supply everything from fuel, winter clothes, tents, to advanced weapons system air defenses, armed vehicles, and advanced artillery."
