WEST PAPUA - The work on the Bintuni-Maybrat road in West Papua will continue in 2022 even though it was stopped due to the attack carried out by an armed criminal group (KKB).

This was confirmed by the Head of the West Papua Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Office, Yohanis Momot. He said the road section was included in the West Papua Province strategic road which was budgeted for in 2022, so that even though the work was delayed, it would still be completed.

"In the next month, we will continue again after there is backup from the TNI-Polri, the road is very strategic because it opens isolation in the Moskona area, Bintuni," said Momot in Manokwari, Papua, quoted from Antara, Tuesday, October 11.

In addition, the type of congested road that has just been opened connects the new autonomous candidate (DOB) of Moskona Regency with Maybrat Regency and other areas in West Papua.

"The status of the road that has just been opened or the road is congested to open regional isolation, we hope it can be completed quickly and the incident like yesterday will not happen again," he continued.

Previously, in an effort to work on the road, on September 29, 14 road workers were attacked by KKB and killed as many as 4 workers.

Overall, in 2022 the West Papua Provincial government will work on 90 strategic roads connecting districts and cities in the region.

The West Papua Provincial Government is targeting that, within the next three years, all roads can open isolation in remote areas.

"The economy increases when roads open, becomes our target and must be implemented, we hope that in the next three years it can be completed," he concluded.
