JATIM - Floods and landslides that occurred in a number of sub-districts in Trenggalek Regency, East Java Province, affected residential areas and caused damage to infrastructure such as roads and bridges.

"A total of 94 flood and landslide points have triggered a number of damage to road infrastructure, bridges, and residential areas," said Secretary of the Trenggalek Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Tri Puspita Sari, in Trenggalek, East Java, quoted from Antara, Monday 10 October.

According to him, the areas affected by floods and landslides in the past week increased from six sub-districts to 12 sub-districts.

Floods reportedly hit parts of the Trenggalek, Pogalan, Karangan, Gandusari, Kampak and Panggul sub-districts, causing the residents' settlements to be inundated and bridges in Kelutan Village were badly damaged.

"Residents and officers have installed a ban on crossing bridges in Kelutan Village," said Tri.

Floods that occurred due to overflowing river water after heavy rains on Saturday, October 8, caused residential areas to be inundated, disrupting the activities of residents in affected sub-districts.

The local government established a public kitchen to provide food for residents whose houses were affected by the flood.

According to BPBD data, heavy rains also caused landslides at 74 points in Panggul, Dam, Dongko, Watulimo sub-districts, and Pule sub-districts.

The landslide caused damage to residents' houses and several infrastructures in these sub-districts.

Tri added that the impact of floods and landslides that occurred this time was more severe when compared to natural disasters that occurred in previous years.

"Alhamdulillah, there were no reports of casualties in yesterday's flood and landslide. However, we urge the public to remain careful and increase vigilance, especially in the event of high-intensity rain," he concluded.
