JAKARTA - Floods that hit Sanggau Regency, West Kalimantan Province, since Friday, October 7 until today are still submerging residential areas. Based on monitoring by the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Sanggau Regency, as many as 50 houses in Kapuas District were flooded up to 100 centimeters. In addition, 1 school unit and 1 puskesmas unit were also affected. Plt. "Currently BPBD is always on standby and every day monitors the water level in the morning and evening," said Abdul Muhari after receiving a report from the Sanggau Regency BPBD, Sunday, October 9. Abdul Muhari said that the flooding in Sanggau occurred after heavy rains and the overflow of the Kapuas river entered residential areas. Currently, the weather in the location is observed to be cloudy. Therefore, Abdul Muhari asked residents to continue to increase their vigilance and preparedness. Bearing in mind, the BMKG has issued information on early warning of light rain in the Sanggau area on Monday, October 10. "BNPB urges people along watersheds to be able to evacuate independently in the event of continuous heavy rains for more than an hour," he explained. Meanwhile, for the long term, Abdul Muhari asked the local community together with the local government to evaluate environmental conditions in the upstream area and along watersheds. "Replanting upstream areas with vegetation that has ecological and economic value will be able to reduce potential flooding in the future," he added.
