Landa Flood Denpasar Bali, Joint SAR Team Successfully Evacuating 33 People, Most Foreigners

DENPASAR - Floods have hit several areas in Denpasar City, Bali Province, since Saturday, October 8 in the morning local time. As a result, a number of residents were trapped and asked for help to be rescued.

Head of the Denpasar Search and Rescue Office (Basarnas Bali) Gede Darmada said his party had received requests for assistance for the evacuation of flood victims. Among them are two points on Jalan Pura Demak Denpasar City and Jalan Nakula Gang Baik Seminyak, Badung. He explained that two teams were dispatched to the location and immediately carried out the evacuation process along with other SAR elements.

The joint SAR team, among others, consisted of Basarnas Bali personnel, Denpasar BPBD, Samapta Directorate of the Bali Police, Senkom partner of the National Police, Radio SAR Potential 115 and local communities. At 06.50 WITA. The joint SAR team managed to evacuate 19 residents from Jalan Pulau Demak Gang III Denpasar City, then at approximately 07.30 WITA, the SAR team evacuated 10 residents from Jl. Pura Demak Gang Detean Denpasar City. Flood handling around Seminyak on Jalan Nakula Gang Baik was completed at 10.30 WITA.

Based on preliminary data reported by Antara, the joint SAR team managed to evacuate 27 adults with details of nine Indonesian citizens and 18 foreigners as well as six toddlers (one Indonesian citizen and five foreigners). At least, from the edge of the Tukad Mati River, Badung Regency, dozens of officers from the Public Works and Public Housing Service (PUPR) until 13.40 WITA continued to pump water from several points of residents' houses to be channeled into the river. At least, from observations at the location there are six large pumps that continue to operate around the Legian Kuta area, Badung Regency, such as in Dewi Sri Krisna, Dewi Sri 1, Jalan Eka Waloya, and Dewi Sri Cambuhan. Especially on Jalan Dewi Sri, Legian Kuta, officers from the City Resort Police (Polresta Denpasar) engineered traffic flows to direct motorists to avoid water that has not subsided around the road.

According to residents and officers working in the field, the water pumping started at 08.00 WITA. Pumps continue to operate and the remaining puddles on the road have begun to decline around adult knees.
