JAKARTA - Iran said the cause of Mahsa Amini's death was not due to blows to the head and limbs, but due to the failure of several organs caused by cerebral hypoxia, according to the IRNA news agency, Friday.

Amini's 22-year-old death while in a moral Iranian police custody has sparked a nationwide protest that has lasted more than two weeks.

In its report, the Iranian coronary said Amini's death was not caused by blows to the head and limbs.

Although it was not stated whether he suffered any injuries or not, the report said he fell while in custody, due to his "underlying illness".

"Due to heart-breathing resuscitation that was ineffective in the first critical minutes, he suffered severe hypoxia and resulted in brain damage," the report said.

As previously reported, Amini was killed in moral police custody, after allegedly disobeying dress codes for women in force in Iran.

Amini's father said his daughter suffered bruises on his leg and asked the police to take responsibility for his death, according to The National News.

His death was announced on September 16. The family and activists accused Amini of death as a result of being beaten. Amini's family lawyer, Saleh Nikbakht, previously told Etemadonline's semi-official news site that "Dear doctor" believed he was beaten in custody.

Police have denied he was injured. They previously said he suffered a heart attack after being taken to the police station for "educated". The family denied Amini had a heart problem.
