CIREBON - The Cirebon City Transportation Service (Dishub) has officially banned odong-odong from entering the main highway. The ban is based on operations in the arteries to endanger passengers.

This was conveyed by the Head of the Cirebon City Transportation Agency Andi Armawan during a coordination meeting of the Cirebon City Road Traffic and Transportation Forum.

"Now there are indeed many odong-odongs entering the arterial route, for that we will prohibit it," said Andi in Cirebon, West Java, quoted from Antara, Thursday, October 6.

Andi said the ban was aimed at reducing the number of accidents and fatalities of victims, considering that in a number of areas, traffic accidents have been rife.

According to him, odong-odong is a very inappropriate vehicle used on highways, especially arterial lanes, because everything is not up to standard, so when an accident will be fatal for the passengers.

For this reason, at the time of the coordination meeting it was agreed that odong-odong should only be allowed to run in housing or not on arterial routes.

"We will ban odong-odong gradually, so as not to cause new problems," he said.

Head of Jasa Raharja Cirebon Representative Okto Arif Primanto added, Jasa Raharja will not guarantee that for odong-odong passengers who have a single accident, this is in accordance with Law Number 33 of 1964 concerning Mandatory Transportation Funds for Passenger Accidents.

"If the odong-odong passenger, the vehicle he was traveling in had a single accident is not guaranteed, so that when an accident does not receive compensation from the state," he said.

He hopes that through the Traffic and Transportation Forum, Cirebon City Road can again reduce the number of traffic accidents, considering that in the period from January to September 2022 this will increase by 14.50 percent compared to the same period in 2021.

"We hope that with this forum, we can jointly minimize traffic accidents, by continuing to disseminate and educate road users," he said.
