PALEMBANG - Traffic jams occurred on Jalan R Soekamto, in front of PTC Mall and Harper Hotel to Jalan Basuki Rahmat, Simpang Lampu Merah Force 66, Palembang, South Sumatra. Congestion was caused by puddles of water as high as 60 cm, as a result of heavy rains that occurred. According to Ashari (20), a resident who lives in the area of Jalan R Soekamto, the road began to be inundated at around 06.00 WIB until 10.27 WIB. So far, the inundation has not subsided. The traffic congestion of vehicles occurred on Jalan Rawa Sari, Jalan Seduang Putih, Jalan Letjen Simanjuntak, Jalan Sekip, and Jalan KH Zainal Abidin Fikri because motorists tried to avoid flooding. Head of the Traffic Unit of the Palembang City Police, Kompol Rendy, said that the police had deployed personnel to overcome traffic jams on flooded roads. "Me and the personnel are still at the location managing traffic, there are several BBWS officers, PUPR, the Cleanliness Service who are deployed there, be patient," Rendy said as quoted by Antara, Thursday, October 6 afternoon. He appealed to residents not to go through R Soekamto-Basuki Rahmat road temporarily and to choose alternative roads such as Veteran Street or General Sudirman. The overflow of the tributary of the Musi River inundated at least 400 meters section of Jalan R Soekamto-Jalan Basuki Rahmat in front of the Harper Hotel. One Pertamina gas station, one Pertamina SPBG, an office area, and residential areas were also inundated due to flooding. The Sumatra VIII River Basin Center operates two portable pump machines to suck up water in areas that are inundated and drain it into sewers.
