The National Police Chief Assigns The Criminal Investigation Team To The Labfor Investigate The Malang Tragedy

JAKARTA - National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo deployed a team from Bareskrim to the Forensic Laboratory Center (Puslabfor) to investigate the cause of the chaos at the Malang Argoran Stadium which claimed hundreds of lives.

This step is also a follow-up to President Joko Widodo's (Jokowi) instructions to thoroughly investigate the tragedy.

"Currently I have invited a team from the National Police Headquarters consisting of Bareskrim, Propam, Sops, Pusdkkkes, Inafis, Puslabfor to take steps related to the deepening of our investigations," said Sigit in his statement, Monday, October 3.

During the investigation process, the Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) team was also dispatched to identify victims of the tragedy at the Kanjuruhan Stadium.

Based on the results of temporary coordination with the local Health Office, the number of victims who died as a result of the incident now stands at 125.

"Currently, the latest data from the Health Office verification check amounted to 125, earlier 129, because there were doubles recorded. Then of course we took further steps with the DVI team, then the investigation team for further investigation to thoroughly investigate and later we will present the results to the entire community," said Sigit.

The riot occurred after the match between Arema FC and Persebaya Surabaya with a final score of 2-3 at the Kanjuruhan Stadium, Malang Regency, East Java, Saturday, October 1 night.

The defeat caused a number of supporters to step down and enter the field area. Security officers, which also consist of elements of the National Police and the TNI, tried to dispel the fans.

The riots grew after tear gas was shot into the stands at the stadium without the guest supporters.

The shooting of tear gas was allegedly because the supporters of the team nicknamed "Singo" Edan were not satisfied and went to the field to carry out anarchic actions.
