The Kremlin Calls An Incident Of Gas Pipe Leaks Nord Stream Could Be A Terrorist Attack, Not Closes The Chances Of International Investigation

JAKARTA - Russian Presidential Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov admitted on Thursday that the leak on the Nord Stream gas pipeline could be a terrorist attack.

"It is impossible to answer questions about the possible cooperation between the Russian Federation and the United States in an emergency investigation, as we have no substantive contact and cooperation between security agencies," Peskov told reporters Thursday, citing TASS September 29.

"At the same time, the unprecedented nature of this event, it appears to be some kind of terrorist attack, perhaps at the state level, of course, requires very active and intense cooperation. This is a very dangerous situation that requires immediate investigation," Peskov stressed.

When asked if Moscow would seek international investigations, he said, "Everything will depend on the situation."

"Of course, cooperation between several countries will be needed here. In a situation of a lack of acute communication and the reluctance of many countries to come into contact with us in such sensitive areas, many questions arise," Peskov explained.

AG's Nord Stream on Tuesday reported about "unprecedented damage" on Monday, affecting three Nord Stream 1 and 2 gas pipelines registered in a few hours.

The first was identified along the Nord Stream 2 near the island of Bornholm in Denmark, and two leaks were discovered afterwards. The Danish Energy Agency said large amounts of natural gas had flowed out. Airplanes and ships are advised to stay away at least five miles away from the scene.

Later, Swiss seismologists said two explosions had been recorded along the second route of the pipeline on Monday. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen denounced the incident as sabotage and warned that "deliberately unacceptable disruptions will lead to a response as strong as possible."

Most recently on Thursday, the Swedish coast guard discovered another gas leak from the pipeline network.
