JAKARTA - MPR chairman Bambang Soesatyo invites people to migrate using electric vehicles from oil-fueled or conventional vehicles.

"We must migrate immediately," said the man who is familiarly called Bamsoet while attending the 2022 Indonesian Electric Motor Show (IEMS) Exhibition at JCC Senayan, Thursday, September 29, as reported by Antara.

Bamsoet said it was important to migrate to electric transportation modes to reduce air pollution. He said 60 percent of the air is currently polluted by gas disposal from gasoline.

He also said that by migrating using electric vehicles, it can help reduce the subsidy burden that has been spent by the Government on fuel oil (BBM).

"The record of Korlantas Polri as of August yesterday, motorized vehicles in Indonesia had exceeded 150 million units, which if multiplied by an average of five liters, imagine how many barrels we have to spend and how much rupiah we have to spend as subsidies," he said.

Instead of disbursing the funds for fuel subsidies, said Bamsoet, the funds will be much more useful for the community if allocated for education and health.

"We will help reduce fuel compensation, which today has reached Rp689 trillion or Rp195 trillion greater than what the Government has budgeted for in 2022," he said.

Migration using electric vehicles, continued Bamsoet, can also be an alternative solution to reduce dependence on oil and gas imports (oil and gas).

"This is also important so that our state budget burden is not drained by oil and gas imports that we have taken from several countries and the price is also getting more and more expensive," he said.

The general chairman of the Indonesian Motor Association (IMI) also said that migrating to electric vehicles is also important considering that petroleum reserves and natural gas are running low in the future. "So we really have to be ready before the energy really runs out," he said.
