JAKARTA - Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russian President Vladimir Putin told Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan he was ready for talks with Ukraine, but after a change.

"The president said, of course, Russia remains ready for negotiations, but when the situation changes, so is the condition," Peskov said Tuesday, citing TASS September 27.

The Kremlin spokesman added that in terms of negotiations, the principle remained unchanged. President Putin asked President Erdogan to remember that it was the Ukrainian side that had left the negotiation route.

"In general, the principle remains the same, just like all special military operations. Also stated in the talks, the Ukrainian side has completely left the path of negotiations. For this reason, special military operations continue," Peskov said.

Earlier, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said Turkey would continue its efforts to unite Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, to launch diplomatic negotiations to end the war in Ukraine.

"The war has no winner. To end this war, it will most likely return to the negotiating table once both sides realize this," he said, launching Daily Sabah.

"There must be fair peace, especially for Ukraine. The occupied areas are Ukrainian territory," he continued underlined.

"Leaders who want the war to continue also need to be persuaded. As Turkey, we have not lost hope, we will continue our efforts. Our President (Recep Tayyip Erdoğan) will continue his contacts with Putin and Zelensky. Our goal is to unite the two leaders to ensure that decisions are made at the level of leaders. The whole world pays war prices," he said.
