RIAU - Three students of the Polytechnic Caltex Riau developed an electric motorcycle with a Jab style display. In full battery conditions, this electric motor is capable of covering a distance of 60 kilometers. The electric motorbike, named insectra, was developed by Muhammad Faishal Abdullah, Fredi Yanuar S and Muhammad Akbar. All three are from the Riau Caltex Polytechnical Electric Engineering Study Program. "The background of making this electric motorcycle is the use of technology and renewable energy as a means of transportation and one of the requirements for passing from the Polytechnic Caltex Riau," said Faishal in Pekanbaru, Antara, Monday, September 26. Deducing oil use as vehicle fuel and utilizing electrical energy is no longer something new. They have read from several sources that Indonesia has also issued regulations related to procedures for determining and dealing with energy crises and energy emergency through the transportation sector. Meanwhile, he said, electric motors can be built simply according to their needs by adjusting the components used. "The main components driving this electric motorcycle are a gross DC type motorbike or often also known as a BLDC that blends into a wheel connecting with a motor frame (arm), so the design will produce a BLDC motorcycle. The drive will supply the power of the battery," he said. Faishal revealed that making this electric motorbike took approximately two months. This electric motorbike has a customized chassis and body parts and the appearance is made like a modified Jap Style motorcycle. "For approximately two months we conducted research related to battery seats, controllers, components and electricity circuits. The costs needed are IDR 23 million so that this motor can run perfectly," he said. Ferdi Yanuar, another team member added that this motorbike has four racing mode features. This feature is the controller to choose a driving mode that will affect the speed on this electric motor. Based on data testing and analysis from the development of this motorbike, especially in the trading mode feature. The first mode, namely high mode, can make the maximum speed of this motorbike up to 73 km/hour. Low mode can make the maximum speed 35 km/h. Then sport mode for speed is the same as high mode, but the time it takes to reach maximum speed is faster, and finally reverse mode which can make it easier for motorists to push vehicles back at a maximum speed of 10 km/hour. Akbar added that one of the advantages of this electric motor is fast charging. For charging to full, this electric motorcycle battery takes 4 hours with the current variable used 10 A and it is recommended that electric power at home is above 1,300 watts. "If it's below 1,300 watts, it will take 8 hours to charge this battery with the current used by 5 A," said Akbar.
