JAKARTA - Residents of Sebakung Jaya Village, North Penajam Paser Regency, East Kalimantan who are members of the Biawan Farmers Group are developing black fly cultivation (bucoil) for fish feed sources. "The lava or maggot of black flies is the main ingredient for the production of fish pellets," explained Head of the Biawan Farmers Group Muhammad Bintang Wahyu Aji in Penajam, Saturday, September 24. The Sebakung Jaya Village Farmers Group produces fish feed or fish pellets because the price in the market reaches Rp. 410 thousand per sack. Interestingly, the production of fish feed is still limited. Not able to meet market demand. "The fish farmers that we produce have not been able to meet the needs of freshwater fish cultivators in Sepbakung Jaya Village, it is still limited, especially for the Regency market," he said as quoted by Antara. The Tani Biawan group is currently only able to produce larvae or black fly maggots in about 40 grams in two days. The black fly larvae are dried first, then ground into flour. The income from the processing of the larvae or black fly maggot is a source of fish feed protein that is needed for farmers (swart fish farmers).

Fish pellets consist of powder, corn and maggot flour, said Muhammad Bintang Wahyu Aji, the content of a larvae or black fly maggot on fish feed is around 30 percent. Black fly cultivation has the potential to be developed and is quite promising, because Larva or maggot from black flies is one of the main ingredients for fish pellet production. According to him, previously the Biawan Farmers group was provided with training and was also provided with assistance in the form of fish feed management machines as well as black fly cultivation buildings from PT Pertamina Hulu, East Kalimantan (PHKT).
