JAKARTA - The Ambon City BPBD held a simulation of flood and landslide management in two locations: the Wai Batu Merah and Wai Tomu rivers.

The simulation involved volunteers, Disaster Preparedness cadets (Tagana), PMI, and people in Batu Merah Country, Monday 19 September.

Acting Mayor of Ambon Bodewin Wattimen said the simulation of flood and landslide management was an effort to increase readiness to deal with floods and landslides in residential areas.

"The simulation is very close to the real event, hopefully it can build community preparedness and all stakeholders related to floods and landslides in Ambon City," said Bodewin Wattimen as quoted by Antara.

He appealed to the public not to build houses in disaster-prone areas, such as riverbanks and mountain slopes and hills.

This, he said, of course aims to avoid the risks or impacts caused by floods and landslides.

"Don't build houses on hill slopes and riverbanks anymore," he said.

Bodewin stated that he would anticipate through the Building Permit (IMB) procedure, so that there would be no construction process at a location that had been banned by his party.

"We can monitor it through the IMB procedure. If that is not a location for residential residents, do not issue an IMB for that," he said.
