JAKARTA - Minister of Transportation (Menhub) Budi Karya Sumadi encourages the transportation sector to rise faster after the COVID-19 pandemic through synergy and joint collaboration between transportation people throughout Indonesia.

"We will not rise faster if we are not together," said the Minister of Transportation while leading the 2022 National Transportation Day (Harhubnas) commemoration ceremony in Palembang, Saturday, September 17.

The Minister of Transportation explained that the transportation sector was greatly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. However, currently, efforts to restore the transportation sector have shown positive results.

Some of these positive achievements until September 2022, including the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) noted that the transportation sector was able to grow 21.27 percent in the second quarter of 2022 and made a positive contribution to national economic growth of 5.44 percent.

Furthermore, the re-management of the airspace above the Riau Islands and Natuna to the Republic of Indonesia is a step forward for international recognition of Indonesian airspace.

"We must be grateful for this achievement that in the midst of the challenges faced, the transportation sector can make a meaningful contribution to Indonesia," he said as quoted by ANTARA.

The Minister of Transportation revealed that in the future there will still be a number of homework in the transportation sector that must be completed, such as increasing connectivity, transportation safety, and intermodal integration throughout Indonesia.

Unlike previous years, the Harhubnas Commemoration Ceremony which is usually held in the capital city of Jakarta, this year it will be held in Palembang City.

This is a manifestation of the development paradigm carried out not only focusing on the island of Java (Java Sentris) but Indonesia Sentris.

In addition, Palembang City is considered to be an example of areas outside Java, which already have complete and integrated mass transportation between LRT, BRT Trans Musi, angkot feeder and other transportation.

After the ceremony, the Minister of Transportation together with the Governor of South Sumatra Herman Deru and the Mayor of Palembang H. Harnojoyo headed to Ampera LRT Station, to distribute the South Sumatra LRT electronic cards for free to people with disabilities.

This is a commitment from the Ministry of Transportation to provide inclusive mass transportation for all people, including vulnerable groups such as pregnant women, children, the elderly, and people with disabilities.

Also present in this activity were members of the DPR and DPRD RI, ranks of the Ministry of Transportation, Provincial and City Transportation Service, transportation operators, and other relevant stakeholders.
