JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) was asked to stop investigating the alleged riot of the Kingmi Mile 32 Church in Papua which ensnared the inactive Mimika Regent Eltinus Omaleng.
The management claimed that the construction of the house of worship was actually beneficial for the local community.
The request was submitted directly by the management of the Kingmi Mile 32 Church at the KPK's Red and White Building, Kuningan Persada today, Friday, September 16.
"On this occasion, we as leaders of the Kingmi Papua Evangelical Economy Church were present among our brothers and sisters to convey about the importance of building a new church building for us and the benefits of the construction of the Kingmi Mile 32 Church, Mimika Regency," said Tilas Mom, who is one of the administrators to reporters.
He said the Kingmi Mile Church was one of the main churches. The number of congregations in the church reached 600 thousand people. With so many congregations, Tilas said there had been difficulties in building the church.
Thus, Eltinus' move to build a house of worship received appreciation and made the management urge the KPK to stop criminalization.
"As the leader of the Kingmi Papua Church, holding fast to the attitude of dignity, self-respect, truth, justice, law, human rights and for the sustainability of development and playership in Timika district, we respectfully request that the leadership of the Corruption Eradication Commission take a decision that gives a sense of justice," said Tilas.
"And or stop all attempts to criminalize through legal proceedings against the Regent of Eltinus Omaleng," he continued.
Moreover, the construction of the church has been initiated by Eltinus for a long time. Even before he became the Regent of Mimika. "The church has not been completed. Now he is a KPK prisoner," he said.
As previously reported, Mimika Regent Eltinus Omaleng was officially detained by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) after being forcibly picked up. He became a suspect in alleged corruption in the construction of the Kingmi Mile 32 Church in Mimika Regency, Papua.
Apart from Eltinus, there are two other suspects who have been named by the KPK but have not been arrested. They are the Head of the Regional Secretariat of Mimika Regency who is the official commitment maker (PPK) Marthen Sawy and the Director of PT Waringin Megah (WM), Teguh Anggara.
In this case, the KPK suspects that there is a discrepancy, including the period of work when the church was built. In addition, there has been a shortage of work volume even though payments have been made. So that there is a state financial loss of up to tens of billions of rupiah.
"As a result of the actions of the suspects, there was a state financial loss of at least Rp. 21.6 billion from the contract value of Rp. 46 billion," said KPK Chairman Firli Bahuri at a press conference at the KPK's Merah Putih building, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta, Thursday, September 8.
Firli said the actions of these suspects had violated Presidential Regulation Number 54 of 2010 concerning the procurement of government goods and services.
Moreover, in the process there have been various arrangements by Eltinus. One of them directly appointed PT Waringin Megah led by Teguh Anggara.
From this appointment, it is suspected that there was an agreement to provide a fee of 10 percent, of which 7 percent was for Eltinus and 3 percent was Teguh.
In addition, it is suspected that there was a subcontractor from another company, namely PT Kuala Persada Papua Nusantara (KPPN) who worked without a contract agreement. Eltinus said the KPK also received around Rp4.4 billion in the case.
