JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) said candidates who want to run in regional head elections (pilkada) must prepare a lot of capital. The reason is that political costs in the country are still high. "The version of the Ministry of Home Affairs, the capital (to run in the Pilkada, ed) is for districts/cities that are outskirts (needed, ed) of Rp30-50 billion. Above that, the middle one is Rp50-100 billion, for those who are metro already above Rp150 billion," said KPK Deputy Chair Nurul Ghufron when opening the National Strategy PK activity entitled 'Refuse Corruption, Assistance for Political Parties So Solutions?' which aired online, Friday, September 16. The magnitude of this capital can create gaps in corruption. Ghufron said that candidates who succeeded in occupying the position of regional heads were very likely to rack their brains to return their capital even though their salaries were not much. "That's the capital, we know that the salary of regional heads is still relatively disproportionate with the burden. So, like it or not, the process of returning the capital is in a corrupt way," he said. Ghufron stated that the KPK did not just talk. Based on the data they have, there are 300 political party cadres who sit as members of the legislature they handle. As for regional heads, the number has reached 144 people. "KPK does not want to continue this (to take action, ed) but this will not be completed by taking action, being arrested and arrested," he said. "So let's build a political system in the future that has more integrity. And that was originally from the policy of forming the Political Party Law, both regarding the use of the budget, its assistance, including what kind of political system. Is it open, proportional, or anything else," continued Ghufron. He asked political parties not to just focus on winning certain candidates. They, must focus on growing integrity in their cadres and helping the government propose a political system in the future. "This is what we both make so that the political system in the future will not only give birth to winners, but the political process should not be victimized by political party cadres," said Ghufron.
