JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) reminds officials in Papua to manage special autonomy (otsus) funds appropriately and accountably. It is hoped that there will be no rasuah practices so that the welfare of the people is fulfilled.

"We hope that such large funds from the central government in the form of special autonomy funds can really be used to improve the welfare of the Papuan people," said KPK Deputy Chair Alexander Marwata as quoted from the KPK YouTube show, Friday, September 16.

Alexander said the special autonomy funds provided by the central government were not kidding in the amount. Open management is expected to be carried out, especially since corrupt practices can hinder development.

"I think it's already IDR 20 trillion, tens of trillions of special autonomy funds have been disbursed by the government for the welfare of the Papuan people," he said.

"If the corrupt practice continues, we are worried that the government's efforts to increase the welfare of Papua will not be realized," he continued.

The KPK ensures that it will continue to monitor the use of special autonomy funds. Anyone caught abusing will be prosecuted.

Alexander said the KPK does not want to be called non-existent for the Papuan people. Thus, the anti-corruption commission will pursue any official who practices presumptuously.

"Once again, the KPK's efforts to support development in the province of Papua are in line with the wishes of the Papuan people, how can Papuan welfare be equal to other regions," he concluded.
