Don't Underestimate Cyber ​​Attacks, BSSN Reveals Most Traffic Anomalies In The Government Administration Sector

JAKARTA - Deputy Head of the National Cyber ​​and Crypto Agency (BSSN) Luki Hermawan revealed that the government administration sector occupies the largest number of recipients of cybersecurity traffic anomaly notifications during the period January to September 13, 2022.

"That is 760 incident notifications, followed by the education sector with a total of 345 notifications," said Luki during a socialization event for Presidential Regulation Number 82 of 2022 concerning Protection of Vital Information Infrastructure (IIV) reported by ANTARA, Thursday, September 15.

Overall, said Luki, BSSN recorded that there were more than 852 million traffic anomalies during January to September 13, 2022. In which, the three most common types of anomalies were malware infections with 55.62 percent, then information leaks as much as 15.20 percent and trojans as much as 10.21 percent

As a follow-up to the anomaly, Luki said that BSSN had sent 1,261 notifications to affected stakeholders or stakeholders.

"From all these notifications, only 72 notifications or six percent of the total notifications have been responded to," he said.

Notifications, he continued, were also sent to stakeholders in various other strategic sectors such as energy and mineral resources (ESDM), transportation, finance, health, information and communication technology, food, and defense.

Related to this, he reminded that the low response to notifications can be a vulnerability that is widely used by criminals to disrupt or damage electronic systems, especially in strategic sectors.

"Hopefully in the future, don't play games, don't underestimate the current situation, we must be very reactive to the electronic systems in each ministry/institution to maintain their security and upgrade to see how the systems they have," he said.

Luki said the risk to vital information infrastructure is becoming increasingly interdependent between electronic systems, as the process of economic, technological, and social globalization intensifies. Where if one sector is affected, it will affect other sectors.

He said that cyber security essentially requires synergy and collaboration from all stakeholders, as well as getting support from elements of state administrators, academics, business actors, and the community.

"BSSN invites all stakeholders to be able to contribute according to their fields so that all forms of cyber threats and attacks can be overcome," said Luki.
