JAKARTA - Due to the canopy of SDN 03 Cempaka Putih Barat School collapsed, the teaching and learning process had to be temporarily suspended to prevent students from being hit.

Deputy Principal of SDN 03, David said the incident began with the sound of roar from the canopy on the 2nd floor. Then a number of debris fell one by one down.

"The canopy was indeed exposed, which is suspected to be iron, the canopy is not strong enough to withstand the tile load," David told reporters, Thursday, September 15.

David said this school had been renovated in 2012. In this incident, no student or teacher victims were hit by tile or iron material.

"Earlier, we evacuated the students, and we immediately returned them early," he said.

Head of Central Jakarta Fire and Rescue (Gulkarmat) Sub-dept., Dirga said that his party received news of a collapsed school canopy.

"We can immediately move the report to the location for the evacuation process," he said.

Dirga said the officers deployed as many as 6 personnel. The canopy that collapsed was 15 meters long and the iron cutting process was carried out so as not to hit students and teachers.

"To be safe, we cut the iron one by one, we cut the supporting bone," he said.

Previously, it was reported that the roof support for the school building canopy at SDN Cempaka Putih Barat 03, Jalan Cempaka IV, Pangkalan Asem, RT 014/01, Cempaka Putih Barat Village, Cempaka Putih District, Central Jakarta almost collapsed, Thursday, September 15, afternoon.

The incident caused panic among students and local residents. The incident was then reported to the Central Jakarta Gulkarmat Sub-dept.

"We received a report at 10.05 WIB, we have deployed 5 rescue teams. Until now, the handling is still being carried out at the location," said Head of Central Jakarta Gulkarmat Sub-dept. H. Asril Rizal when confirmed by VOI, Thursday, September 15.

Rescue officers evacuated the kanovi buffer which was almost released from the hook on the wall.

"The cause is suspected to be because the kanovi buffer was not strong enough to withstand the load, so it almost separated from the wall and almost collapsed," he said.
