President Jokowi Inaugurates Wear Fair Suspension Bridge in Maluku

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) accompanied by Mrs. Iriana Joko Widodo inaugurated the Wear Fair Suspension Bridge in Maluku to accelerate the mobility of people and goods.

"This Wear Fair Bridge is very important for the mobility of people and goods", said President Jokowi after inaugurating the Wear Fair Suspension Bridge in Southeast Maluku Regency, Maluku, as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, September 14.

President Jokowi said the inauguration of the bridge connecting two small islands, namely Fair Island and Kei Kecil Island was a form of the government's commitment to building infrastructure evenly throughout the country.

In fact, he said, within a year the government has built around 200 similar bridges as access for citizen connectivity, both between sub-districts, between villages, and between islands.

"What we are building is not only big toll roads or big ports or big airports, but we build inter-village bridges, inter-island bridges like this a year, we build approximately 200 suspension bridges to connect between villages, between sub-districts, and between small islands", said the President.

Director of Bridge Construction of the Ministry of PUPR Yudha Handita Pandjiriawan in a separate statement said that the Wear Fair Suspension Bridge has a length of 120 meters and a width of 1.8 meters.

This type of suspension bridge was chosen because the construction process was fast and by the needs of the surrounding community, he said.

"The implementation is fast because there used to be a bridge and it was dismantled immediately to make it more useful and the people on the other side of the island still don't need a lot of big vehicles, so it is still enough to facilitate two-wheeled vehicles and crossings", said Yudha.

Head of the Maluku National Road Implementation Center (BPJN), Jon Sudiman Damanik, at the same event hoped that the community could properly maintain and maintain the Wear Fair Suspension Bridge as one of the state assets that provide real benefits to the community.

"We hope that the community will jointly protect this asset. So we have to take care of this, the community must take care of it so that it can be maintained properly", said Jon.
