BMKG Calls La Nina Makes 3 Regions In South Sumatra Not Having Administrative Seasons In 2022

SUMSEL - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) of Climatology Station stated that three districts in South Sumatra Province (Sumsel) will not experience a dry season in 2022.

The districts without the dry season are located in North Musi Rawas, South Ogan Komering Ulu (OKU), and East OKU.

The head of the BMKG Class I Climatology Station in South Sumatra, Wandayantolis, explained that the three districts in South Sumatra experienced rainfall more than the average due to the La Nina phenomenon and the strengthening of Dipole Mode.

Thus, he said, the three regions cannot be defined as experiencing the dry season.

Based on Antara's report, the La Nina and Dipole Mode phenomena also caused the 2022/2023 rainy season to arrive earlier than it should, advancing 30 to 40 days.

According to South Sumatra Class I Climatology Station, most of South Sumatra is entering the 2022/2023 rainy season in early August 2022, while Palembang City and its surroundings are predicted to enter the rainy season in September 2022.

The rainy season that arrives early and increased rainfall on the one hand can help reduce the risk of forest and land fires, but on the other hand it can trigger hydrometeorological disasters such as floods and landslides.
