High Rainfall, BPBD Asks Residents Of Bantaran Sungai In Palangka Raya To Be Alert To Flood Sends

KALTENG - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) asked residents living on the banks of rivers crossing Palangka Raya City to be aware of the potential for flooding.

Head of BPBD Palangka Raya City, Emi Abriyani, said that several floods that hit Palangka Raya City were caused by overflowing rivers or were shipments from other areas in the upstream area of the river.

"A number of areas in Central Kalimantan, including upstream rivers that flow across Palangka Raya, are starting to rain. For this reason, people in low-lying areas and in riverbank areas must be aware of flooding," said Emi in Central Kalimantan (Central Kalimantan), quoted from Antara, Thursday, September 8.

Emi explained that the heavy rain in the upstream area made the river unable to accommodate the water discharge, the impact of the riverbanks and lowlands was flooded with river water.

This condition also occurs in Palangka Raya City when the rainy season begins in Central Kalimantan.

"For this reason, in order to provide information on potential flood disasters, the BPBD team periodically monitors river water levels at predetermined monitoring points," he explained.

From the results of water discharge monitoring, on Thursday, September 8, at 13.00 WIB, there has been an increase in the water discharge high from 5 centimeters to 25 centimeters.

Currently, BPBD Palangka Raya is also monitoring to prepare locations to establish health posts, refugee posts and volunteer posts if suddenly floods hit. This means that the local government has begun to prepare steps to deal with various possible flood disasters.

Among areas prone to puddles during the rainy season such as in areas on Ramin Street, Meranti, Krakatau, Beliang, Bukit Raya I, Temanggung Tilung and new housing in Tabung Penyang.

Meanwhile, areas prone to flooding are the areas of Tangkiling, Petuk Evidence, Marang, Mendawai, Petuk Ketimpun, Flamboyan, Bergeng Begkel and Kameloh Baru villages as well as other areas along large rivers such as the Kahayan River and Rungan River.

"No less important, along with the increase in rainfall and the high level of water discharge, we ask the public to monitor their electrical installations. Don't let it be because of negligence something that doesn't happen," he concluded.
