The Public Must Know, The Government Cannot Intervention About The Cyclone Phenomenon Get Conditional Release

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD explained that the government cannot intervene against convicts of corruption cases who receive conditional programs.

"Regarding conditional release, of course the laws and regulations have formally met the requirements; and it must be noted that the Government is not allowed to enter into legal affairs if it is a matter of punishment and acquittal," said Mahfud at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Thursday, September 8, quoted from Antara.

He explained that the judge's decision in giving parole to convicts of corruption cases and other cases was a constitutional process that must be respected.

According to him, the conditional exemption program and the reduction in the number of sentences are decisions from the panel of judges or courts that cannot be intervened.

"We brought him to court with strong evidence. If the judge is of the opinion, that such a proper punishment, yes, we cannot interfere," he said.

As is known, the former Pinangki prosecutor Sirna Malasari, who is a convict in a corruption case, underwent a conditional release program. Apart from Pinangki, there were four other corruption convicts who were also parole free on Thursday, one of whom was former Banten governor Ratu Atut Chosiyah.

Coordinator of Public Relations and Protocol of the Directorate General of Corrections (Ditjenpas) of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham) Rika Aprianti said the five convicts in the corruption case had met the administrative and substantive requirements, thus obtaining a conditional free program submitted to the Ditjenpas.

Pinangki has served a criminal period or passed two-thirds of his criminal period, so he can apply for parole.
