Not Only Kicking From Santri, MUI Supports Perpetrators Of Persecution At Gontor Islamic Boarding Schools In The Legal Process

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) highlighted the case of persecution that led to the death of a student at the Darussalam Islamic Boarding School (Ponpes) Gontor Ponorogo, East Java. MUI encourages the perpetrators to be dealt with firmly by the police.

"MUI fully appreciates and fully supports the steps taken by the leaders of the hut who have taken firm action against the perpetrators by firing them as students and removing them from the hut," said MUI Deputy General Chair Anwar Abbas in a written message, Thursday, September 8.

Anwar conveyed that MUI hopes that the head of the cottage can resolve the case with the families of the victims in accordance with the character and identity of the Islamic boarding school as an educational institution that is obedient and obedient to the applicable law.

Such steps, he continued, are important for the Gontor Islamic Boarding School so that similar incidents do not happen again and the educational process and the teaching and learning process in Islamic boarding schools can continue to run well and smoothly.

Anwar expressed his condolences from MUI for the death of one of the students of the Gontor Islamic Boarding School named Albar Mahdi (AM) who was suspected of being the victim of a senior student abuse. According to him, this incident is very concerning and regrettable.

"This is certainly very concerning and regrettable," he said.

Previously, on Tuesday, September 6, Ponpes Gontor admitted that there was an alleged abuse of a student named Albar Mahdi by a fellow student who resulted in the death of a teenager from Palembang, South Sumatra.

"Based on the findings of the santri care team, it was found that there were allegations of abuse that caused the victim to die," said Ponpes spokesman Darussalam Gontor Ustadz Noor Syahid, in Ponorogo, East Java, as reported by Antara.

So far, he added, Ponpes Gontor has taken firm action against the alleged perpetrators by issuing students involved in the persecution case.

On Wednesday, September 7, the Ponorogo Police held a pre-reconstruction of the case. The results of the initial incident were carried out at the locations of the incident of persecution until when the Albar students Mahdi began to be evacuated to the cottage health post and were finally taken to the hospital emergency room.

"A total of 50 scenes were carried out by witnesses and the role of replacing the victim in the pre-reconstruction today," said Ponorogo Police Chief AKBP Catur Cahyono.
