JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan targets that the dredging of Pondok Ranggon reservoir will be completed before the end of 2020. This was said when he visited the reservoir in the Cipayung area, East Jakarta.

"Together with Pak Anwar, the Mayor of East Jakarta, directly inspected the dredging process at Pondok Ranggon Reservoir. The current dredging progress has been around 80 percent and is expected to be completed before the end of 2020," Anies said in his @aniesbaswedan Instagram account, Tuesday, November 24.

Anies said, Jakarta has three challenges in water management during the rainy season, namely water flow from the upstream, extreme local rain, as well as low tide and close to the land surface which is decreasing.

He said, the dredging of Pondok Ranggon Reservoir is an effort to increase water discharge capacity as a measure to anticipate the rainy season and extreme weather due to the La Nina phenomenon. This phenomenon is predicted to occur in Indonesia at the end of 2020.

Currently, there are 15 excavators working to dredge the reservoir. "This dredging is a joint collaboration because 7 tools are from the SDA Service, 4 from Bina Marga, 1 from the LH Service, and 3 from the private sector," said Aniesn.

He continued, there are three reservoirs in this area with a total area of 10.76 hectares of water with a depth of 4 meters and can accommodate up to 400 thousand cubic meters.

The former Minister of Education and Culture said that under normal conditions like today, Pondok Ranggon Reservoir has accommodated around 100-200 thousand cubic meters of water.

"God willing, with massive dredging, the capacity will increase and it can prevent inundation and flooding in the East Jakarta area during the rainy season," he explained.
