Affirm Britain's Support For Ukraine, PM Truss Accepts President Zelensky's Invitations By Kyiv

JAKARTA - British Prime Minister Liz Truss accepted the invitation to visit Ukraine, reaffirming support for Kyiv in the fight against the Russian invasion, during a phone call with President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Britain became one of Ukraine's most vocal international supporters by sending nearly 7,000 anti-tank weapons, hundreds of missiles and armored combat vehicles. They also train Ukrainian soldiers.

"The prime minister spoke to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky tonight to reaffirm Britain's firm support for Ukraine's freedoms and democracy," Truss said.

"The prime minister said he was looking forward to working with the President in the coming weeks and months, happily accepting an invitation to visit President Zelensky in Ukraine soon."

Last July, Truss said he would be 'best friend', Ukraine if elected Prime Minister of England and would immediately call President Zelensky.

At that time Truss said he would work with allies to provide more weapons and humanitarian aid to Ukraine.

"As prime minister I will be Ukraine's best friend, following in Boris Johnson's footsteps, fully committed to ensuring (Russian President Vladimir) Putin fails in Ukraine and suffering a strategic defeat, and that Russia is constrained in the future," Truss said.
