JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of the Gerindra Board of Trustees Desmond J Mahesa admitted that there was no problem if the chairman of the PDI-P (PDIP) DPP Puan Maharani became a vice presidential candidate accompanying Prabowo Subianto in the 2024 Presidential Election (Pilpres).

However, the possibility of candidates for presidential and vice-presidential candidates must be approved first by the General Chairperson of PKB Muhaimin Iskandar or Cak Imin. PKB and Gerindra are known to have joined the coalition to face the 2024 presidential election.

"You have to talk about it with Mr. Muhaimin, will you or not Pak Muhaimin give in?" Desmond said in response to the possibility that happened after Puan's visit to Prabowo's residence in Hambalang Bogor last weekend.

Desmond emphasized that it was impossible for Gerindra to suddenly carry Prabowo-Puan and then shift Cak Imin. Moreover, so far Gerindra and PKB have always communicated intensively to be able to pair the two party leaders.

"Yes, during the Muhaimin era, who was already a good friend, suddenly Puan came to slide Muhaimin. If Muhaimin wants it," said Desmond.

However, if faced with Cak Imin or Puan's choice as Prabowo's companion in the 2024 presidential election, Desmond chose the first option.

"If I agree with Muhaimin more than Puan, yes," said Desmond. Previously, a number of PKB elites had been excited that no other name was discussed by Gerindra-PKB as Prabowo's vice presidential candidate in the 2024 presidential election other than Cak Imin.

Meanwhile, the name of the presidential and vice-presidential candidates that will be carried has not yet been declared to the public because Prabowo and Cak Imin still have not decided the right date.
