JAKARTA - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) of the Republic of Indonesia stated that eight provinces in Indonesia have zero cases of nail mouth disease (PMK).

"Since August 15, 2022 until now there have been no more cases of PMK in these eight provinces," said Deputy for Rehabilitation and Reconstruction of BNPB RI Jarwansyah as quoted by Antara, Sunday, September 4.

The eight zero PMK provinces are DKI Jakarta, Bali, Riau Islands, South Kalimantan, West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, South Sumatra, and West Sulawesi.

Meanwhile, the highest national PMK cases occurred in East Java, with 64,207 cases, Central Java 17,159 cases, West Nusa Tenggara 16,099, and Bangka Belitung in 15th place with less than 100 cases.

"The recovery rate for livestock exposed to PMK in Babel is quite high, which is above 95 percent and it is hoped that Babel can become zero cases," he said.

According to him, the transmission of the PMK virus is very fast, because it does not only occur through physical contact between animals, but can also be through humans, goods, vehicles and other media as carriers and can be done by air.

"According to the direction of the Head of the PMK Task Force, we urge the Provincial Government of the Babylon Islands to collaborate in implementing four main strategies for handling PMK, namely biosecurity, treatment, conditional cuts, and vaccination," he said.

The head of the Babel Islands Province PMK Handling Task Force, Naziarto, said that the provincial government, district governments, and other relevant agencies are tightening animal crossings from land and sea.

In addition, the Babel Provincial Government together with the Regency / City Government continue to carry out routinely disinfection activities at every people's farm, routinely communicating, information and education to the community and breeders.

"We also treat sick livestock such as giving vitamins to increase immunity and collecting livestock data through identical PKH applications and risking animal vaccinations," he concluded.
