GORONTALO - The Gorontalo Provincial Government (Pemrov) through the Public Works and Spatial Planning Service (PUPR) will build a number of channels in Gorontalo City.

Head of the PUPR Water Resources Division of Gorontalo Province, Romen S Lantu, said the construction of several channels aims to support the Tanggidaa Canal in flood management and puddles in Gorontalo City.

"Our goal is to build flood canals to become a means of disposing of water from several canals in the city. In the future, they can be added to the Tanggikiki Canal, Serdadu Canal and others," said Romen in Gorontalo, quoted from Antara, Friday, September 2.

He explained that the construction of the Tanggidaa flood canal would be one example in overcoming flooding in the city of Gorontalo, which often hit the area during the rainy season.

"Because it is urgent, the construction of the Tanggida Flood Canal is one of the main priorities to become a disposal of puddles and floods in Gorontalo City," he said.

According to him, if the road is continuously flooded with rainwater and waste water from residential channels, the food community will be quickly damaged.

"For example, on HB Jasin Street, it rains for two or three hours, it will definitely inundate the road. In addition to disrupting traffic flow, this can also damage the road. At these points the channel is there but the disposal site is a problem," he said.

He hopes that the provincial government's plan will receive budget support from the central government and the people of Gorontalo Province.

"If the construction of these canals can be realized, what is the dream of the people, namely the City of Gorontalo, is free from flooding and puddles can be realized," he said.
