MALUKU - The Maluku DPRD will soon discuss the impact of rising fuel prices (BBM), especially Susidi fuel in Ambon City with provincial Disperindag.

Deputy Chairman of Commission III of the Maluku DPRD, Saudah Tethol Anakotta, said that the meeting discussion is expected to find a solution in the form of a special policy if in the near future there is an increase in fuel prices due to an increase in goods prices.

"Automatically, Commission III will also participate in monitoring the increase in fuel prices and their impacts, including ensuring that the stock of goods is sufficient and it is hoped that the price increase will not exceed reasonable limits," Saudah said in Maluku, quoted from Antara, Wednesday, August 31.

Saudah said that if fuel increases, the transportation rate will automatically increase. From that, he said, there needs to be discussions regarding suitability in its implementation.

He admitted that he had also discussed the scarcity of kerosene, which resulted in soaring commodity prices in Ambon.

At that time, Saudah, who was sitting on the chair of Commission II of the Maluku DPRD, along with other council members, had predicted the scarcity of kerosene in Ambon since the end of 2021.

The next step is for Commission II of the Maluku DPRD by proposing an additional quota of kerosene to the Oil and Gas Downstreaming Agency (BPH Migas).

"We have taken steps to anticipate the scarcity, but it turns out that in mid-August until now there is still a shortage, including diesel fuel, but it is hoped that there will not be excessive scarcity," he said.

Commission III of the Maluku DPRD also reminded traders who will increase the price of basic goods for the community ahead of the plan to increase the price of subsidized fuel oil by the government should be reasonable and affordable.

"The government's plan to increase fuel prices is clearly non-stop and will automatically result in an increase in the prices of basic clothing and food goods on the market," he said.

However, he also hopes that the increase in the price of necessities must be reasonable, lest there be parties who seek to take big advantage of the increase in fuel prices.

Because the social assistance that will be provided by the government after the increase in subsidized fuel prices is to help groups of beneficiaries whose income is small, even uncertain.

"There needs to be a price determination from local governments, in this case the Department of Industry and Trade, then increase supervision or control of the movement of goods prices in the market so that the increase can also be considered reasonable," he said.
