JAKARTA - The red rooster scorched 40 houses in densely populated settlements on Jalan Swadaya RT 13/2, Cakung District, East Jakarta, on Monday at around 03.24 WIB.

Head of Operations for the East Jakarta Fire and Rescue (Gulkarmat) Sub-dept. Gatot Sulaeman said the cause of the fire was suspected to be an electrical short circuit from one of the residents' houses.

"One of the residents while sleeping then saw the fire in the middle, and it has grown," said Gatot Sulaeman in Jakarta, Monday, August 29.

There were 16 units of fire engines deployed with a total of 80 personnel to extinguish the fire.

"We had a bit of trouble reaching the location because there were many cars parked on the road, then the water source was also far away," said Gatot.

Gatot said his party then coordinated with factories in the vicinity of the settlement to gain access to water to extinguish the fire.

The fire can be localized by personnel from the East Jakarta Gulkarmat Sub-dept. after struggling for an hour to extinguish the red rooster.

After cooling down, the process of extinguishing the fire was declared complete at 07.15 WIB.

Gatot said there were no casualties or injuries in the fire accident. However, as many as 35 families or about 105 people lost their homes.

Not only that, material losses due to the fire accident are estimated at Rp600 million.
