JAKARTA - Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) Kuching Sarawak noted that since 2020 until now, 49 Indonesian citizens have changed citizenship to Malaysian citizens. One of the reasons is the marriage between Indonesian citizens and Malaysia.

"However, the transfer of citizenship is not because they do not love Indonesia, but rather to facilitate family matters such as education and health matters while living in Sarawak," said Consular 2 of the Indonesian Consulate General in Kuching, Lugeng when contacted in Kuching, Saturday, August 27, as quoted from Antara.

Lugeng said that Consular 2 of the Indonesian Consulate General in Kuching in terms of mixed marriages between Indonesian citizens and residents of Sarawak Malaysia had prepared marriage services and wedding records. And it must be done properly and must follow the regulations that apply in Malaysia.

"So in this marriage and marriage registration, we must follow the correct procedures that have been regulated by the Malaysian state. Likewise, birth must also be noted, if not carried out, it will be difficult when they take care of their passports and so on," said Lugeng.

According to him, the existence of this service at the Indonesian Consulate General in Kuching was welcomed by Indonesian citizens who wanted to get married mixed between citizens. However, due to distance constraints, they live far from the KJRI Kuching office so that it is a bit difficult. This can be overcome by means of Consular 2 of the Indonesian Consulate General in Kuching doing it by picking up the ball.

For our marriage, we ask the two bride and groom to complete various conditions, such as never getting married for those who have never been married. Then for those who have been married, have the status of widows, widows, husbands or people's wives, we ask for complete divorce certificates, or permits from wives or husbands. And these letters must be valid certificates and in accordance with existing regulations," he said.

Meanwhile, the general requirements for services for those who are getting married must be accompanied by passports, ID cards and family cards as well as their partner from Malaysia who must also have local population documents.

If all these requirements have been met, then marriages and marriage records can be carried out. Then the marriage will be ratified with the issuance of a sijil (certificate) by the local government for those who are Muslim, and for Christians or Christians the certificate will be issued by the Church in Sarawak," he explained.

Since the opening of the Consulary 2 service related to marriage services and marriage records as well as recording the birth of children, the public's remarks have been very enthusiastic, namely the desire to get married and record marriage and child birth properly.

"To date, more than 20 thousand have recorded marriages and births at Consular 2 of the Indonesian Consulate General in Kuching.
