JAKARTA - The Tasikmalaya Police have installed a police line and guarded the location of the drill well that emits an alleged gas odor.

The location of the well is in the village of Rancabogo residents, Sukaratu Village/Sub-district, Tasikmalaya Regency, West Java.

Sukaratu Police Chief, Iptu Mahmud Darmana said the location that was the source of the gas smell continued to be monitored and a police line was installed so that no community would approach the area.

"A police line has been installed so that residents do not approach the location," Mahmud said, Saturday, August 27, quoted from Antara.

The smell of gas came out of the drill well at the house of a resident of Rancabogo Village, Sukaratu Village/Sub-district, Friday at around 09.00 WIB.

Previously, the drill well had been completed on August 16, 2022, with a depth of 7.5 meters. Then the owner of the house called the drilleer back because the water coming out was still cloudy.

A number of workers then checked back and dug again. However, from inside the well there was a rumbling sound like gas, then provoked with a match, it turned out to be on until the excavation was finally stopped.

"From inside the well, it was heard that there was a rumbling sound, it was suspected that there was gas and tried to be provoked by matches and a fire lit," he said.

The police chief submitted that the residents' reports were immediately followed up, then coordinated with the Tasikmalaya Regency Environmental Service for further examination regarding the alleged gas burst.

Head of the Environment Division at the Public Works, Spatial Planning, Public Housing and Settlement Areas, and the Environment of Tasikmalaya Regency, Anneu Susana, said that she had just received a report from the public, so that field checks would be carried out.

As long as it is not known what content is in the well, said Aneu, the public is advised not to approach the location to avoid something that is not wanted or can endanger themselves.

"Don't have any activities and don't take it just yet (water wells)," he said.
