JAKARTA – One of the residents' houses on Jalan Jembatan Lama, Makasar District, East Jakarta suddenly collapsed. The collapse of the building is thought to have been caused by the foundation of the house being wobbly.

It was later discovered that the building belonged to Eko Widiantoro. The incident occurred on Wednesday, August 24, afternoon. Luckily, as a result of the incident the occupants of the house survived.

As is known, the building measures 16x5 meters. As a result of the collapse of the building, a number of valuables belonging to the victim were crushed by the building debris.

According to Eko, the owner of the house, on Saturday before it collapsed he saw that the walls of the house had cracked. Feeling worried, Eko immediately vacated the house and saved some of his belongings including documents.

"Signs from Saturday afternoon. It has collapsed since Wednesday afternoon at around 17.30 WIB. Thank God no one was at home, but the building was knocked down first. Wednesday night, it collapsed itself," Eko told reporters, Thursday, August 25.

Eko said the building had been standing for 7 years. And Eko himself has occupied the building since 5 years ago.

"Currently evacuating at my parents' house. I didn't have time to save my belongings. (cause) It is possible that the building was not sturdy, it used to be a pond," he said.

Meanwhile, according to the information from the Head of the East Jakarta Gulkarmat Sub-dept., Gatot Sulaeman, as a result of the incident, the owner suffered a loss of Rp. 200 million.

"The reason is that the foundation is not strong enough. After being evacuated, one family was declared safe, there were no casualties. A total of 12 personnel were deployed to the location," he said.
