JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD encouraged the Judicial Commission (KY) to optimize its task of supervising judges in order to realize fair law enforcement.

"I know there are efforts that have been made by the Supreme Court and the Judicial Commission. We appreciate this, but now we need to realize that an optimal effort is needed by KY," said Mahfud when he was a keynote speaker at the seminar "Strengthening the Role of the Judicial Commission in Maintaining and Upholding the Honor, Noble Dignity, and Behavior of Judges" at the Judicial Commission auditorium, Jakarta, reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, August 24.

The Judicial Commission's supervision of judges, according to Mahfud, currently does not appear optimal because there are still many judges committing "misbehavior" or abusing their authority in upholding justice, so that they are arrested by law enforcement officers.

"Right now, more judges are being arrested. This means that constitutional reform, the existence of a Judicial Commission is also not optimal in preventing judges' delinquency," he added.

Furthermore, in the seminar which is a series of activities to commemorate KY's 17th Anniversary, Mahfud reminded KY to ensure that the internal conditions of the institution are solid, have integrity, are honest, transparent, and are not reprehensible.

He explained that every member of the Judicial Commission must have the values of integrity, honesty, discipline, transparency, and responsibility in carrying out their duties and authorities, supported by regulations that form the basis for their actions, actions, or decisions.

Thus, the Judicial Commission can carry out its duties and authorities properly, so as to be able to realize a clean and authoritative Indonesian judiciary.

"Keep this dignity. Go back to the khittah that KY was built to maintain the dignity and nobility of judges so that our judiciary is authoritative," said Mahfud MD.
