PAPUA - The death toll from floods and landslides in Sorong City, West Papua Province, increased to three people.

"Two people died due to landslides on the first day of extreme heavy rain on August 23, 2022 in the morning and one victim died early Wednesday this morning," said Sorong City BPBD Head Herlin Sasabone in Sorong, quoted from Antara, Wednesday 24 August. .

He explained that the latest death toll on Wednesday, August 24, early that morning, was Roman Mustafa, due to a landslide in Malamso Village, Malaimsimsa District.

According to him, two victims of the landslide, namely their child and mother, had previously been flown to their hometown in Salatiga City, Central Java.

While the victim who died on Wednesday, August 24, has been given coffin assistance for the funeral process.

He said that until now, three people died and 10 people were injured due to the landslide in Sorong City.

The Sorong City Government has also established an emergency response status for floods and landslides for the next 14 days or two weeks.

"Flood handling in Sorong city continues to be carried out and the emergency response post at the Mayor's office is ready 24 hours to receive public complaints," he said.
