Reject Gerindra's Proposal Regarding The Dissolution Of Kompolnas, Vice President: Must Be Maintained And Strengthened!

JAKARTA - Commission III of the DPR proposed that Kompolnas be disbanded in a hearing or RDP yesterday. Vice President (Wapres) Ma'ruf Amin believes that the institution should be strengthened rather than disbanded.

"I don't think Kompolnas should be disbanded but its role will be strengthened. This is so that it can control it properly and can provide directions so that it strengthens the role of the National Police," said the Vice President to reporters in Jakarta, Tuesday, August 23.

He said, if there is a role for Kompolnas that is not good enough, that role needs to be raised and optimized, not the other way around.

The vice president hopes that Kompolnas can provide supervision, influence, and advice to the National Police so that the Police become stronger. "For me to be defended and strengthened!" he said.

In yesterday's RDP, Deputy Chairman of Commission III of the House of Representatives Desmond J Mahesa questioned the existence of Kompolnas in escorting the case of Brigadier J's murder involving the Head of the National Police Propam Division, Ferdy Sambo.

The RDP was attended by members of Commission III of the DPR, the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs as well as the Chairman of Kompolnas Mahfud MD, high-ranking officials from the National Human Rights Commission, and LPSK at the Senayan Parliament Complex, Jakarta, Monday 22 August.

"What is the task of Kompolnas? It has been clarified," said Desmond.

Responding to the Gerindra Party politician's question, Mahfud MD emphasized that Kompolnas is working as a partner to the National Police, not like they used to be like enemies. This has been conveyed to the National Police Chief Gen. Pol Listyo Sigit Prabowo.

"So the [external Police] partner. I told the first meeting [to the National Police Chief]," said Mahfud MD.

Desmons responded, when the initial case of Brigadier J's death at the shelter of Inspector General Ferdy Sambo, Kompolnas acted like a spokesman for the South Jakarta Police, who ultimately made a mistake in giving a statement.

"This is extraordinary, this is extraordinary in the records, is this Kompolnas actually necessary or not?" said Desmond.

Mahfud emphasized that if Commission III of the DPR is not satisfied with the performance of Kompolnas, it can dissolve the institution that was actually formed by the DPR.

"The one for Kompolnas is the DPR. If you want to dissolve it, just dissolve it," suggested Mahfud.
