RIAU - Head of the Riau KSDA Center, Genman S. Hasibuan, said that his party dispatched a team to collect information and install camera traps to track and identify traces of the Sumatran tiger that killed Sopiana (44).

"The team consisting of 6 personnel has gone to the location of the incident and found the barracks position opposite the canal where the acacia harvest is piled up," Genman told the media in Pekanbaru, Antara, Monday, August 22.

Sopiana (44), an employee of the contractor company PT Peranap Timber Seha, was killed by a Sumatran tiger. The victim died on the border of Teluk Lanus-Serapung Village, Kuala Kampar District, Pelalawan Regency, Riau, on Friday, August 19, 2022.

"We have coordinated with local government officials, the police and local related parties. The barracks we met were only occupied for about four nights by the group of workers including the victims. The total number of workers occupying the barracks was 15 people," he said.

He explained that the barracks had been empty or unoccupied for the past 4 years. Judging from the traces and excrement of the Sumatran tiger, the striped has often crossed the area around the barracks.

Genman gave an understanding to the community not to temporarily move around the tiger location.

"The location of the incident is a tiger roaming area, therefore workers should not be active in the evening or before the morning, because at that time the Sumatran tiger was carrying out its activities," he said.

After coordinating with related parties, BBKSDA Riau will install tiger trap cages in locations suspected of animal movement paths. Until now, Riau BBKSDA officers continue to patrol and assist tiger security at the scene.

"Currently, the victim has been evacuated and buried. The Riau KSDA Center has expressed condolences to the family and has gone to the victim's house," he said.
