PALU - Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Parigi Moutong Regency said the Central Sulawesi (Sulteng) Provincial Government will build approximately 10 temporary shelter blocks (huntara) for victims of flash floods in Torue Village.

"The construction of the shelters will be carried out by the Department of Housing and Settlements of Central Sulawesi Province and construction activities will soon begin," said Secretary of BPBD Parigi Moutong Moh Rivai as reported by ANTARA, Monday, August 22.

He explained that currently the Parigi Moutong Regency Government has prepared an area of 7,500 square meters for the construction of a temporary shelter located in Hamlet 2, Torue Village.

Ten shelter blocks will be built later, consisting of 40 booths, and each block has four rooms equipped with supporting facilities including electricity meters, kitchens and bathrooms.

"As directed by the Head of BNPB, Lt. Gen. Suharyanto, when he visited the flood location in Torue Village on July 31, 2022, post-disaster management was handled by the district and provincial governments. The Parigi Moutong Regency Government has prepared the land, just waiting for construction activities," said Rivai.

In addition to the construction of shelters in Torue, he said, BPBD Parigi Moutong has also started the construction of 15 permanent housing units (huntap) for flood victims in Boyantongo Village, Parigi District, which occurred in 2020.

Therefore, according to regulations and technical guidelines for disaster management, the use of shelters lasts for two years with the status of borrow-to-use land.

"Residents living in temporary shelters will be prioritized for victims who have lost their homes, and victims whose houses have been heavily damaged by the impact of the disaster," said Rivai.

In addition, the Parigi Moutong Regency Government has also prepared land for the construction of a 7,500 square meter shelter in Torue Village in a safe place, where the huntap development activity will enter the prevention, recovery, rehabilitation and reconstruction phase.

"Although this stage is still quite long, at least the availability of land is ready, as a form of the local government's seriousness in carrying out post-disaster management efforts," said Rivai.
