KALBAR - At least seven housing units for residents of Sambus Village, North Putussibau District, Kapuas Hulu Regency, West Kalimantan (Kalbar), were heavily damaged by a tornado.

Gunawan said that the wind accompanied by heavy rain and lightning occurred at around 21.00 WIB, Sunday, August 21, with a duration of approximately one hour.

He said, due to the tornado, the roof of the residents' house in the kitchen was hit by a tree and the roof of the living room was leaking from the blows of tree branches.

One house even tilted due to a tree falling on a power line, causing a pole to push the house to a slant.

According to him, the Kapuas Hulu BPBD Team had arrived at the scene in Sambus Village, the handling was completed at 14.30 WIB, where the community also took part in working together to repair damaged houses and cut wood that fell due to the wind.

He said that the weather conditions in Kapuas Hulu were quite extreme, apart from being prone to flooding, Kapuas Hulu was also swamped by tornadoes and landslides.

Therefore, he appealed to the people in Kapuas Hulu to always remain alert to the possibility of natural disasters.
