Arrested By Gerindra Politician Over The Duties Of Kompolnas, Mahfud MD: It Was The DPR Who Created It, If You Want It To Be Dissolved, Just Dissolve It

JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives Commission III Desmond Junaidi Mahesa 'fired' Mahfud MD about the duties of the National Police Commission (Kompolnas).

"What are the duties of Kompolnas? It has been clarified," Desmond asked the Head of Kompolnas and Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD at Commission III of the DPR, Senayan, Jakarta, as reported by ANTARA, Monday, August 22.

In addition to questioning his duties, Desmond, a Gerindra politician, also asked the form of supervision carried out by Kompolnas against the Polri institution.

Desmond spoke about a member of Kompolnas who was only a "public relations" or spokesperson for the information from the South Jakarta Police, which was later discovered to be wrong.

Responding to the question, Mahfud MD emphasized that he was the Coordinating Minister for Politics, Law and Security as well as the "ex officio" Head of Kompolnas with the task of supervising and providing recommendations.

"Kompolnas external supervisor of the National Police, as a partner," he said.

Mahfud MD revealed that during a meeting with the National Police Chief, General Pol. Listyo Sigit Prabowo, he has said that Kompolnas works as a partner, not as before as an enemy.

"We position ourselves as partners," he said.

Mahfud emphasized that if Commission III of the DPR RI is not satisfied with the performance of Kompolnas, it can dissolve the institution which was also formed by the DPR.

"The one for Kompolnas is the DPR. If you want to dissolve it, just dissolve it," suggested Mahfud.

Commission III of the DPR summoned three state institutions to hear information related to the death of Brigadier Joshua Hutabarat or Brigadier J in a hearing (RDP).

The three institutions are the National Police Commission (Kompolnas), the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK), and the National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM).
