LPSK Chairman Calls Terrorism Victims A State Responsibility

JAKARTA - The Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) emphasized that the victims or survivors of the crime of terrorism are the responsibility of the state.

"The state is present, the state does not refuse to embrace in the midst of pain and suffering, a ray of light gives hope that our country has taken care of the victims," said LPSK Chairman Hasto Atmojo Suroyo as quoted by Antara, Sunday, August 21.

The state's responsibility refers to treating wounds and compensating the survivors as a result of criminal acts of terrorism.

Currently, protection for victims of terrorism in Indonesia is also able to reach survivors of the past through Government Regulation Number 35 of 2020.

Then, in 2022 LPSK together with the National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) have also completed the fulfillment of rights for victims of terrorism in the past.

"The fulfillment of these rights through the facilitation of compensation," said Hasto.

On that occasion, he said the impact of the crime of terrorism always has a bad impact and is attached to the victim throughout his life.

LPSK and the Ministry of National Development Planning (Bappenas) have a program called Friends of Witnesses and Victims (SSK). The collaboration of the two agencies is to make the survivors of terrorism victims more resilient.

"This is one of LPSK's national priority programs with Bappenas," he said.

The program is also intended so that terrorism survivors, including victims of other crimes, synergize and make friends with other witnesses and victims.

The hope is that the group will be able to access all recovery services from LPSK.

Lastly, LPSK is currently intensifying the SSK program in various provinces in the country. LPSK invites all levels of society to synergize with the institution in order to pay attention to survivors.
