President Jokowi Calls: President Putin Congratulates Indonesia's Anniversary, Explains Efforts To Stabilize The United Nations And Turkey's Joint Market

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin by telephone, discussing various matters on Thursday.

Coinciding with the celebration of the 77th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia on August 17 yesterday, President Putin congratulated President Jokowi and the Indonesian people, launched Kremlin.ru.

On the same occasion, the development of cooperative relations between the two countries was also discussed, with an emphasis on implementing the agreement reached during President Jokowi's recent visit to Russia.

This includes the promotion of a number of major bilateral projects in the trade and economic fields of the two countries.

The issue of global food security did not escape the discussion by the two leaders of the country. On this occasion, President Putin informed about the efforts made by Russia, together with Turkey and the United Nations, to stabilize the situation on the world market for wheat and fertilizers.

Not to be missed, along with Indonesia's G20 Presidency this year, the two leaders also discussed preparations for the G20 Summit in Bali in November.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said earlier that there had been no decision on whether Putin would attend in person in Bali or virtually, as reported by TASS on August 18.

Previously, Russian President Vladimir Putin had accepted an invitation to attend the G20 summit in Bali in November. However, Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov said the format of President Putin's attendance, live or video conference, had not been set.

"Yes, we have confirmed his participation. They have invited (President Putin) to the offline meeting, but there is plenty of time. I hope the pandemic will allow this important forum to be held in an offline format," he quoted Anadolu Agency as saying, underlining Indonesia's official invitation, despite the fact that there were strong pressure from Western countries.
