Vice President Ma'ruf Amin: The 1945 Constitution Is Not Just A Document Of National Wisdom

JAKARTA - Vice President (Wapres) Ma'ruf Amin emphasized that the 1945 Constitution is a constitution and not just a state document or a document of national wisdom.

This was conveyed by the Vice President in an event themed "The Constitution as the Foundation for Indonesia's Post-Pandemic Economic Awakening" as well as the 77th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia at the Senayan Parliament Complex, Jakarta on Thursday 18 August.

"Indonesia was founded on the agreement of the founding fathers of the nation who have diverse backgrounds, which are reflected in our constitution. Therefore, the 1945 Constitution as a constitution is not just a state document or a document of national wisdom," said the Vice President, quoted from Antara.

In the event, the Vice President said that the constitution had set out the agreed foundations and basic principles of governance and statehood.

He added that the constitution must be the main reference and source in drafting laws. All regulations under the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia must cover the life of the nation and state.

"The reference in question is the principles, values, intentions, and goals contained in it. So, it is not only called the fulfillment of formal requirements but there is no realization," he said.

Therefore, he said, awareness and sincerity are needed, including honesty, sincerity, togetherness, and humanity, in reviving the soul of the constitution as the nation's morality.
