KUNINGAN - Minister of Environment and Forestry (LHK) Siti Nurbaya Bakar said that currently the existing waste must be managed properly because it has high economic value.

"The current waste can become an economic resource," he said in Kuningan, West Java, as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, August 17.

He said that based on the results of an expedition from a non-governmental organization (NGO) who traveled from Bali to Jakarta while picking up trash, he managed to collect as much as 68 tons.

Of this amount, he continued, 79 percent is waste with high economic value, so it can be used as community income.

Therefore, said Siti Nurbaya, saying that there needs to be a wiser utilization by the community, so that the waste problem can be resolved by reusing it.

"From the 68 tons of waste collected, 79 percent are high-value plastics, it shows that it is actually an economic resource," he said.

Siti Nurbaya said that currently the Ministry of Environment and Forestry continues to make arrangements, especially waste and environmental problems which are global issues.

Therefore, his party asked the community to be wiser in managing waste, by sorting and choosing from home.
