BANDA ACEH - The East Aceh Police (Polres) investigated four inmates regarding the discovery of an assembled short-barreled firearm with eight live bullets at the Class IIB Idi Penitentiary, East Aceh Regency.

"Initially, the police examined two inmates. Then, two more inmates were summoned for examination," said acting head of prison Idi Indra Gunawan as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, August 17.

Indra Gunawan said the prisoner who was summoned first after the firearm was found, named Muksalmina, was a convict of village fund corruption with a sentence of five years in prison.

"Then, the police summoned and examined Hamdani, a narcotics convict who was sentenced to life in prison," said Indra Gunawan.

Furthermore, the police asked Idi Prison to bring in two other inmates for questioning. The two, namely Marzuki bin Zahman, are narcotics convicts with a life sentence and Iskandar bin Rajali Yatim, a narcotics convict with a sentence of 10 years in prison.

Indra Gunawan said the discovery of the homemade firearm started with a report by the Head of Security at Prison Syahrial Chandra on Saturday (13/8). The report said there were several inmates who wanted to escape using these firearms.

"Then, there was information from the public that there were firearms in the prison cell. Based on the information, we searched the prison cell," said Indra Gunawan.

From the search, he said, a package was found wrapped in cloth containing an assembled firearm similar to the FN type with eight active bullets. The package containing the weapon is in a flower vase in front of the prison cell.

"On these findings, we immediately reported to the regional office. Based on the direction of the regional office head, we made a report to the East Aceh Police," said Indra Gunawan.

Indra Gunawan said his party did not know where the firearms came from. The existence of firearms in the prison is still under investigation by the East Aceh Police.

"Similarly, the four inmates who were questioned have been returned to the prison. As for the evidence in the form of homemade firearms, we have handed over to the East Aceh Police," said Indra Gunawan.
