JAKARTA - A number of houses and rice fields belonging to residents in Nagari Garabak Data, Tigo Lurah District, Solok Regency, West Sumatra (West Sumatra) were submerged due to flash floods that hit the area on Sunday, August 14.

The Chief Executive (Kalasa) of the Solok Regency BPBD, Armen, confirmed the flash flood that hit residents in Nagari Garabak Data, Tigo Lurah District, Solok Regency.

"As a result of the incident, it is estimated that the loss reached Rp. 300 million," he said in West Sumatra, quoted from Antara, Monday, August 15.

Armen explained that the flood submerged the people's rice fields along the river. As a result, he said, rice fields covering an area of 60 hectares failed to harvest.

In addition, residents' houses were also flooded and eight power poles collapsed.

Armen said the flash flood occurred due to heavy rainfall and lasted for up to three hours from 16.00 WIB on Sunday.

This resulted in the Batang Simanang Manang and Batang Kandih rivers in the area overflowing and submerging the rice fields and houses of residents.

"In that incident, Alhamdulillah there were no casualties," he said.

Furthermore, he appealed to the people in Solok Regency to always be aware of hydrometeorological disasters in the form of floods and landslides. Especially for people who live in areas prone to flooding and landslides.

"Facing extreme weather changes, we urge the public to be more careful, especially those who live in disaster-prone areas in the form of floods and landslides," he said.

He also said that the Solok Regency Government is currently trying to carry out an assessment to calculate the losses caused by the flood.

"Furthermore, studies and rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts will be carried out with the related OPD," he said.

In addition, for now the water in the flood-affected areas has begun to recede and the team is still conducting verification in the field.
